    • What an exhilarating week! What an exhilarating week!
February 28, 2021It is absolutely fantastic having a “bricks and mortar” shop, and I know I speak for both Lyn and Annie, in saying that we love nothing more than the physical interaction with our customers, offering advice and help, making suggestions, assisting in trying on garments and footwear – alongside a good old natter, gossip and giggle! We offer a sympathetic ear and enjoy putting the world to rights! Of course, we are thrilled to have a date to work towards on 12th April to open our door again – still mindful that this date is subject to change should the figures not continue heading in the right direction, but so far, it is looking promising. This pandemic has taught me that it is important not to rely solely on the shop to generate income, and that we need to spread our wings and make our mark in the world of social media to enhance online sales. Of course, once we re-open, my wish is that the two will run along together and hopefully, make us busier than ever – wouldn’t that be fantastic? So, the saying goes “every day is a school day” and that has certainly been true for me. I’m only a beginner but I have been learning how to prepare and edit videos to upload onto Instagram and Facebook so that I can showcase the new arrivals! They are not perfect but I am pleased with how they are coming along and I will make improvements along the way. It is very time consuming and the hours just fly past – but it is a great use of my time at home during lock down. (Housework will keep!) My plan is to present each piece individually, in all available colours, and then we can start putting together suggestions for complete outfits to add to your Karen George spring/summer wardrobes! With a few basics, we will select items which are interchangeable, mixing and matching along the way! It’s going to be so much fun, and I hope, will give you ideas for which pieces look good together. Incidentally, the Adini collection arrived on Friday but I am still waiting for Robell and Caprice!! It’ll be great to add shoes to the outfit suggestions too. In addition to this, I have also learnt how to set up a Facebook and Instagram shop where you can now view the products, and with one click it will take you direct to that product on the website. I feel out of my depth but somehow I’ve managed to get it up and running – I’m still a bit rusty but the more I do, the more confident I am getting. So if you use social media, do have a look – any feedback is welcomed, and if you haven’t already seen, more items have been added to the website. I’ve selected a photograph of one of the new Adini dresses this week, which I think is really pretty and it has side pockets! Have a good week everyone, remember to remain safe and keep up the good work following the guidelines. Look out for each other and be kind. As always, sending you lots of love, good health and best wishes. The team at Karen George are still here for you – click and collect or delivery....Read more...
    • An exciting few daysAn exciting few days
February 21, 2021Hello folks, as you know it was half term this week and as predicted we did very little!  The weather was absolutely vile for the majority of the week, so we had some very lazy days.  George and Ian enjoyed having late nights and late mornings too!  We did manage to get out whenever we could between showers – along with everyone else! I popped over to the shop on Monday, changed the windows and have started to bring away the heavier winter boots to make way for the new arrivals from Caprice, which I am reliably informed are on their way!  Oh I can’t wait – to be able to dress the shop and window with brighter colours will be fabulous. It became very exciting at the end of the week when three boxes arrived from Marble, followed by another from LV and then Luella!!!  So now I just need the twelve cartons from Caprice to arrive and then I really won’t be able to move in my office! It is so nice to see all these beautiful refreshing colours – I have unpacked all of the boxes now, and once I have steamed them, I intend to prepare some videos to show you each one in detail – these will be loaded onto the Facebook page and Instagram platforms. All of the new arrivals are now available on the website so do have a browse – there are a few more high summer items to come and we haven’t had the Adini stock yet, oh yes, and of course Robell!!! Oh my goodness – I hope we can get the shop open again soon.  It sounds promising, as the pandemic situation is improving every day – I get my vaccine on Wednesday next week, so I am very pleased about that. The weather is warmer, the new stock is here, spirits are up.  I really feel that we can all start looking forward. You may have noticed that I have switched my logo to a more cheerful colour!  I felt it needed brightening up – what do you think? Have a good week everyone, remember to remain safe and keep up the good work following the guidelines.  Look out for each other and be kind. As always, sending you lots of love, good health and best wishes. The team at Karen George are still here for you – click and collect or delivery....Read more...
    • Bbbbbrrrrrr!Bbbbbrrrrrr!
February 14, 2021That wind is icey!! Although I am no longer isolating, I must admit that I haven’t really ventured out much this week.  Tuesday was my first day and I popped over to the shop and delivered some stock for click and collect – thankful that our snow didn’t amount to much!  Then George and I walked round to see his grandparents.  My cheeks were pink and my eyes were streaming by the time we arrived back home. Lyn changed the windows with a splash of red for Valentine’s Day which look great – oh yes, and the leak mystery continues.  They have looked into our ceiling void to find that the floor above is concrete and the water is seeping in between the seam…. I’m awaiting an update. I am continuing to try to grow the business using social media, and a friend invited me to join a new platform called Clubhouse – it is audio only chatrooms where you get to listen (and take part if you wish) to many different subjects.  My focus has been business related gaining tips and advice on marketing etc – it’s very supportive and you can make great connections.  However, it is very time consuming as there is always a chatroom of interest.  I listen along whilst doing other things, which is quite handy. We also had a couple of visits to the Orthodonist.  I’m so proud of George – he has coped so well without complaining about his treatment, and on Thursday his brace was removed!  His teeth look fabulous and now he just has to wear retainers each night to maintain the good work. I hope you are all snuggled up nice and warm, in your homes with your loved ones on Valentine’s Day.  Next week is half term for us – not that we will be going anywhere!  It’ll be a welcome break from schooling for George and some rest for my husband (I’m sure I’ll find him some jobs!). The Covid numbers are much improved, less new cases, less in hospital, less deaths, more vaccinations and an R value between 0.7 – 0.9.  All heading in the right direction but this still means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 7 and 9 other people, so the message remains the same, stay home. The team at Karen George are still here for you – click and collect or delivery. Our sale continues with 25% off everything online and in store at least until the new season stock arrives, so it may just be for another week or so. Look out for each other and be kind As always, sending you lots of love, good health and best wishes....Read more...
    • 2 days to go!2 days to go!
February 7, 2021Well, that’ll teach me won’t it? Last week I said how I wasn’t finding lockdown too bad!!!! Sunday evening my NHS App alerted me that I had to isolate for 9 days! Fortunately, I don’t have any symptoms at all, but I just had to stay home and not even go out for my daily constitutional walk!! It’s not been so bad, I’ve just continued doing all the things I talked about, minus the walking. But roll on Tuesday when I’ll be free again! By the sounds of it, it was just as well – my husband is still working of course, and he came home today (Saturday) saying that it is mobbed out there with people – and they weren’t all keeping their distance or wearing masks!!! What is up with people?! We have a long way to go yet. It’s infuriating. I realise it was because it was such a gorgeous day – I heard the fog horns in the morning and my husband de-icing his car so I knew it was a cold one from my bed! But then when the sun broke through it was lovely…..from my window anyway! I’ve been busy uploading images and details of the anticipated new season arrivals onto the website, ready to make them live as soon as they arrive. I’m told they will be delivered from 16th so I’m really looking forward to their arrival. Lyn is going in to change the shop window this week – and to check on our leak!! The flat above have sprung a leak which is dripping onto our ceiling tiles but they are struggling to locate the source. As you might imagine this is a concern but fortunately it is not near any stock – but it is near a light fitting – so it is a blessing that the shop is closed at the moment. By the time you read this, we may be covered in a blanket of snow! That is difficult to imagine after the day we have had today. Here’s a picture of my view. I’ll be restricted to my garden if it does snow here, but I’d be surprised, I think we may just miss it. So wherever you are, enjoy the snow, play safely and lets hope it dries up quickly so that the roads and pavements are clear. The team at Karen George are still here for you – click and collect or delivery. Our sale continues with 25% off everything online and in store at least until the new season stock arrives, so it may just be for another week or so. Look out for each other.
