    • Let’s not be complacentLet’s not be complacent
January 17, 2021We cannot allow ourselves to be complacent. This is a deadly disease – like many, my own family have suffered a loss to Covid this month causing heartbreak and total devastation. It’s easy to think it won’t happen to us, or that we are fit enough to fight it off, but that just isn’t true. Some of the media coverage is frightening, seeing young, healthy people succumbing to this disease. Please continue to wash hands, keep your distance and wear masks and only leave home if it is absolutely essential or to take your daily exercise. We are almost there……. Despite all that is going on in the world today, there is much to be positive about. Great news that 24 hour vaccine centers are due to be piloted in the next ten days and good progress is already being made with the vaccine roll-out. I’d be very happy to get up at 3am to get a vaccine. I read that they are hoping that by June every adult will be vaccinated. In the meantime, we are all spending so much more time at home and looking to wear comfortable clothing and so I have placed a small order for some more lounge-wear, casual tops and trousers which should be with me in the next couple of weeks – I will, of course, notify you when they arrive. The team at Karen George are still here for you – click and collect or delivery. Our sale continues with 25% off everything online and in store. Look out for each other. Be kind, stay safe and stay home. As always, sending you lots of love, good health and best wishes....Read more...
    • So much to be grateful forSo much to be grateful for
January 10, 2021Hello – and a warm welcome to all our new subscribers! I’d like to start with a huge thank you, to all those who left glowing reviews on our Google page. I’m so grateful, it really makes a difference, and I must say how proud I feel at reading such lovely words. I am blessed to have a great team in Lyn and Annie and I know they feel the same way too. We enjoy the relationship with our customers, and it’s so rewarding to hear your feedback. It is very encouraging and gives us even more drive to succeed and come through this challenging time together. This week didn’t start too well – my husband was getting ready for work Monday morning and realised that we had no hot water or heating! It couldn’t have picked a colder week – uuurrrgghhhh! Fortunately, we have a gas fire and a log burner, so we managed to keep warm, but it was the lack of hot water we struggled with the most – having to strip wash was no fun and as for washing my hair in the sink!!!…… Our engineer couldn’t install a new boiler until Saturday, so it’s been a long week, getting up early to get the fires going for George coming in from his paper round. Thank heavens for hot water bottles and onesies – the bedding felt wet it was so cold. My goodness how spoiled are we? We rely so much on such things and we don’t appreciate our luxuries until they are gone. We have much to be grateful for – not just the bigger items in life. This week, I was mostly grateful for my hot water bottle! Remember to be grateful for one another – look after each other. Stay safe and stay home. The team at Karen George are still here for you – click and collect or delivery. As always, sending you lots of love and WARM wishes....Read more...
    • We’re not really surprised, are we?We’re not really surprised, are we?
January 5, 2021I know I like to repeat myself, but this is getting ridiculous – I’m like a stuck record – but, FOR the record, here we go! The full list of businesses required to close can be found in the guidance on closing certain businesses and venues in England, but includes: non-essential retail, such as clothing and homeware stores, vehicle showrooms (other than for rental), betting shops, tailors, tobacco and vape shops, electronic goods and mobile phone shops, auction houses (except for auctions of livestock or agricultural equipment) and market stalls selling non-essential goods. These venues can continue to be able to operate click-and-collect (where goods are pre-ordered and collected off the premises) and delivery services. Of course I am bitterly disappointed that it has come to this again, not only for myself, but for all my fellow independents trying to get by and retain their businesses.  I can’t say it has come as a surprise, I think we all saw it coming.  It’s going to take strength of character and determination to see us through another lockdown.  We simply have to keep going. My thoughts are with the front line workers – what they are coping with now is worse than it has ever been since the start of the pandemic – this new variant being up to 70% more transmissible and hospital admissions up by 40% – it is up to us to help them – too many lives have already been lost.  I want to scream from the rooftops “PLEASE STAY AT HOME AND DON’T TAKE UNNECESSARY RISKS” Some of the stories covered on the media are heartbreaking – for goodness sake, if we stand still, the virus will stand still – it’s a simple formula really.  And let’s not forget all the other key workers and volunteers keeping our economy moving.  Enough said. In the meantime, we still need to earn a living and try to make sales however we can.  The sale is ongoing with 25% off everything.  As before, Click and Collect is still an option – or delivery is free on purchases over £50. If you are local and would prefer us to hand deliver, we are happy to do so.  Rest assured that we remain very strict with our safety policy, wearing masks, keeping our distance and washing our hands. I wish I had something more positive to say – just keep strong, be grateful and stay safe. As always, sending you lots of love and best wishes....Read more...
    • It is with a heavy heart…It is with a heavy heart…
December 31, 2020Here we are on Thursday 31st December 2020 and I hope you have all managed to enjoy your Christmas time as best you could, within the limitations, and above all, safely. We have had a very quiet couple of days, over eating and drinking, sitting around too much, watching tv and generally relaxing.  We’ve almost managed to watch the complete series of The Crown! On Christmas Day we walked round to visit my in-laws and stood on their driveway to say hello and swap gifts.  It is the first year that we haven’t spent Christmas day together in 28 years – that’s quite incredible when I think of it. We took ourselves out for a stroll along the beach, as did many!  It was like summertime when people are on their holidays, strolling along, taking in the views – except we were all well wrapped up in hats and scarves as there was quite a chilly wind.  It was so refreshing after being indoors too long with the central heating on – I came home, sat down and promptly fell asleep! Ha ha, I’d obviously over exerted myself! You’ve probably gathered by now that I try to focus on being positive – I don’t dwell too much on the doom and gloom – that is no help to any of us. Facts are facts, and we have to accept our destiny and make the best of it. Hampshire is now in Tier 4 together with much of the UK.  I do not believe we will be opening the shop again until at least the end of January, furthermore, I have read some articles suggesting we could find ourselves in the Tier system until Easter!  The hospital admission numbers must fall and the vaccine numbers rise to get this virus under control and until we do, we are facing a further unsettled beginning to 2021. So – like Boris, it is with a heavy heart, that I have decided to launch into yet another, radical sale of 25% off everything.  As I said, accepting our destiny, and keeping positive is our only choice, and if I want Karen George to survive, I must make business decisions which keep us trading even if it means without profit, until this is over.  In such times, it is a buyer’s market, so it is a great opportunity for you to treat yourself to a genuine bargain! Therefore, if you wish to make a purchase, Click and Collect is still an option – or delivery is free on purchases over £50. As we say goodbye and good riddance to 2020, may I wish you all a very happy and HEALTHY New Year. Stay safe, sending you lots of love and best wishes....Read more...
