I don’t know about you, but a downpour of rain is welcomed in my garden – I’d be very happy with spells of rain at night and sunshine during the day.

We have continued to be busy and of course I am hoping this will continue throughout the summer. George finished school on Friday for the summer holidays, so I think all of the schools have now finished as his school always seems to be one of the very last.

I am anticipating more holidaymakers travelling to the coast this year for their staycations. I am aware that this doesn’t please the locals, but this year has to be the exception, due to Covid – us local businesses need people to keep us busy and to recover from such a horrendous year last year.

I am supposed to be visiting family in Scotland now but our plans have changed. With the rising Covid numbers, a couple of health issues and appointments, we decided to stay home and have days out instead. It is disappointing as we enjoy our trip and spending time with family, but I am sure we will rearrange for another time.

Our NHS is fantastic – on Thursday I noticed that my eye was feeling a bit sore and had started to swell up. By Saturday it was quite swollen and red with a cluster of little white dots in one corner, so I went to my local chemist and was advised by my pharmacist to contact the out of hours service. I spoke with a doctor who said that, had it been on my leg or arm, I could see my GP on Monday, but because it was on my eye, he’d prefer for me to be seen sooner. The upshot was that I saw a doctor at 8.30am Sunday morning, who was a little puzzled as to what it was, but as a precautionary measure is treating it as shingles! So I’m on a course of tablets for a week – they won’t cure it but will stop it from spreading and causing long term nerve damage. Thankfully within a day or two it had pretty much cleared up, just a little red but so much better now. So I have only been wearing make-up on one eye all week!

We are not quite sure where to go or what to do next week. If the weather is kind we’d like to be outdoors as much as possible, so feel free to message with your suggestions!

Of course I am leaving the shop in safe hands with Lyn and Annie – they will love me, because I’ve had notice from Caprice that they are delivering some of our winter order next week! And I wonder what they’ll put in the window display?

We’ve already taken delivery of one winter style – this classic Caprice black leather loafer – they are at the shop, but not yet on display, so if you are needing a pair of these just ask. You’ll be sure to secure your size before they go on general sale.

Have a great week, sending you lots of love, good health and best wishes. Look out for each other and be kind.

Our website is still available for online orders, click and collect and delivery.
